There was absolute quiet apart from the occasional train that passed on the line a short distance away. I hadn’t seen a single car on the road since midday. The silence was exquisite. The journey was finally beginning to turn out as I had hoped. The sun rose across the tracks and I woke with it. The grassy plains were absolutely still. A mist had closed in and I could almost hear water droplets forming. I saw several horses ahead in the distance. Grazing freely, they wandered below the blanket of mist. Gazing on that quiet, dream like scene, I breakfasted on Chinese bread and sausage. A refreshing sense of peace filled my entire being. (from "Against the Wind" - Poolbeg Press)
