China

After lunch, I took the road north. To my delight the wind started to come from behind. It was actually pushing me along. My compass showed I was heading northwest and the wind was fair. The road was firm, with few potholes or bumps. Yes, yes, yes! All at once conditions were perfect. I flew along. Even though I was cycling with a huge load, I unexpectedly found myself in top gear. Yowzer! I was travelling across a green and gold grassy plain. Mongolian scenery had replaced the red earth countryside of the preceding days. It no longer felt like China. This was cycling at its best. It was ideal. (from "Against the Wind" - Poolbeg Press)
