Europe
When, after crossing the border, I saw the EU circle of stars
symbol, I lost my head and raised both fists in triumph. As
well as feeling satisfied and elated at having made it all the
way to Europe, I felt relieved at having made it safely to a
more ‘civilised’ part of the world. The moment I left the
border post the ‘civilised’ part of the world opened quietly
